While many things will happen in 2012 here are 7 that I think we’ll see and in some cases I really hope we’ll see.
QR codes will be the “IT” thing. Which also means it will be the most “misused” item of 2012. Marketers will slap a QR code on anything and everything, if it has our clients name on it it must have a QR Code on it. A few standout campaigns will come of it, after all if you throw enough stuff up against the wall something is bound to stick.
Retailers finally get it. Retailers begin to add and integrate social into the in-store shopping experience, reminding users to leave reviews, check in, and share their experiences. Look for more tablets at retail locations as retailers begin to take social much more seriously at the store level in 2012.
Google+ takes a totally opposite approach from Facebook, in that in 2012 they worry way less about users, and focus more on working with brands. Once they convince brands of the search weighting of Google+, brands will flock, and from search alone, Google+ becomes an immediate customer service and conversion vehicle, despite the fact that users will NOT use this network socially.
Analytics platforms will improve or incorporate mobile Analytics, which, to a large extent, has been lacking in the first and second generation platforms. The platforms will continue to improve and workflow, which has often been lacking or disparate, will start to merge with business requirements, providing in 2012, the first actually useful platforms for business analysis that incorporated social data, that have been more or less hit and miss, up to this point.
Online reputation management. Your company’s online reputation is going to become more important than ever in 2012. You’ve got to monitor and maintain your online reputation closely. You don’t want to lose sales because of a negative post that appears about your company on Google Places. It’s important that you take control of what’s being said about you online. You’ve got to spend time each day putting out positive content about what you do.
Local search. In 2011, geo-targeted local search exploded and it’s going to continue to be a major trend for 2012, More and more, people want to know what is near them. What restaurants should they go to? What stores should they shop at? Everyone wants this information, especially on their mobile phones. That is why geo-targeting your company is so important.
Social Television. When watching prime time program we all see the #program. With the networks needing to create ways to watch your favorite programs ‘live’ and not on TIVO I can see more and more programs partnering with twitter. There has been some great dialogue with live events and programs on TV so how can they create the same feel with produced programming.
What do you see happening in 2012 or hope to see happen?
