Build ‘likes’ with Facebook Ads:
Facebook comes down to the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’. The ‘haves’ are the brands/pages utilizing what’s available, and the ‘have nots’ are the pages that just post, look at Facebook as FREE, and don’t invest anything other than time into Facebook — Facebook ads, no way, pay for Facebook. Today’s blog is not to discuss why Facebook needs businesses to buy Facebook ads, nor is it Facebook limiting viewing etc and forcing you to buy Facebook ads, there are plenty of blogs out there whining about that. This blog is to look at what happens when a small local business invests into Facebook ads.
Facebook Ads “As I See It”:
The reason a business needs to be on Facebook is that is where their customers are! So you go where your customers are and open your Facebook page. ‘Likes’ are important, and while it’s true that you may be better off with 100 ‘likes’ that are your true customersm than 1,000 likes that are not…But is it really worth your investment of time and money for just 100 ‘likes’? What is a ‘like’ worth to your business? If you’re investing time into Facebook why not try to reach as many of your customers and potential to ‘like’ your page? Engagement is much more than asking a question in a post, it’s what is that person doing thinking at the point of engagement. When I’m surfing on Facebook is a much better time for you to let me know that you have a Facebook page than when I’m standing in your store, or on your business card, print ad etc. I’m right here on Facebook, right now and it only requires one click. Doesn’t reaching out on Facebook with a Facebook ad make sense at that point? I personally am more likely to click when I see a Facebook ad than I am when I see a Facebook button on their website.
Small Local Business Using Facebook Ads:
So what happens when a local business runs an ad on Facebook with the objective of gaining ‘likes’ on a $3 to $5 budget per day?
Can you tell which 5 days they ran Facebook ads? 72 new ‘likes’ in those 5 days took their page from a little over 1,400 ‘likes’ to over 1,500 likes. It cost $20 in Facebook ads. Compared to your traditional advertising how much is $20 in Facebook ads worth, or for that matter other marketing that you pay for?
What happens with ‘likes’ when investing for a few days and then take a few days off on a $5 a day budget. Below is a client that we run Facebook ads for, 2 to 4 days a week.
It is easy to see the days that the Facebook ads run and the days ads are not run.
Facebook Ads Mobile:
As we become more and more a mobile society Facebook has adapted, and you now see ‘sponsored ads’ from your friends who like a page appearing on your mobile feed wall. Looking at the results of Facebook ads and where the ‘likes’ are coming from, it shows us that mobile is working well, not just for Facebook but for the business page as well.
Some Facebook ads mobile numbers were just released from AdParlor. The highlights are:
- Click-Through-Rates Are 15x Higher On Mobile
- Clicks are 30% Cheaper on Mobile
- Mobile Ads yield a CVR that is 16% lower than Non-Mobile Ads
- Entertainment vertical shows highest CTR on mobile
- Android has a 62% higher CTR than the iPhone & BlackBerry
- Fans coming from mobile comment 22% more and like posts 63% more than non-mobile users.
- Fans coming from non-mobile drive 6-8x more engagement in terms of creating posts, viewing photos, clicking on links, and watching videos.

I had no idea that the Facebook mobile ads had that much of a higher CTR than traditional ones. Very interesting stuff, thanks so much for sharing!
