Sometimes the most interesting days come out of the blue… for instance, we got the following email this morning:
Hello,
As you’ve likely heard, seven companies have pulled their advertisements from the Rush Limbaugh after his controversial comments last week. Two of the seven companies were mattress retailers. Many of our readers have written in to ask why there are so many mattress advertisements on the radio. What about that advertising medium is so appealing to mattress sellers?
I noticed that Paradux has designed ads for mattress retailers, so I thought you might have some insight on this. I have a 3 pm deadline (Eastern time) today. If someone at the agency has a few minutes to chat before that time, please give me a call at XXX-XXX-XXXX.
Thanks very much for your help.
Brian
Just as we would advise you to do, making the time to talk with the author, Brian Palmer, became a priority today for Mike. Brian Palmer is an author for Slate Magazine, which is, according to Wikipedia, “an online publishing entity created by the Washington Post Company to develop and manage web-only magazines.” He was able to help give Mr. Palmer some background and in exchange was recognized in the article, Sleep Station Why are there so many mattress ads on the radio? It’s an interesting read, and it was fun to be a part of it.
In the event the link above doesn’t work, you can review the PDF version of the article here.
