The New Facebook Business Page:
So as everyone is talking, blogging, and designing their new Facebook business page, the big question is will it have more of an impact than the current version? Every admin has access to their insights and can see the traffic that is driven to their timeline (wall), and that’s what all the talk has been about, the timeline (wall) of the new Facebook business pages.
The majority of ‘likes’ ‘comments’ that happen from posts are are made from an individuals newsfeed, not by going to your timeline (Facebook Business Page) and liking and/or commenting. Most figures that I’ve seen show between 80 and 90% of ‘likes’and ‘commnets’ are from the individuals or businesses ‘newsfeed.’
This can easily much be confirmed by looking at your insights. On Your Facebook Business Page just look at your reach and engagement, then your unique visits. While this isn’t exact it will give you a pretty good idea of how much of the engagement takes place in individual newsfeeds and not directly on your Facebook Business Page.
So the while we’re all embarking on the process of redesigning our Facebook Business page, creating a new cover image, organizing our app, pinning posts, starring posts creating milestones etc, how many people are going to see your new facebook page? Well it might behoove you to find and develop reasons to send people to your new page.
Today we make posts with links to drive people to our website or to other links that we might want to send people to. In looking at Google analytics it’s easy to see that Facebook can be a great too todrive traffic to your website, now can we use it to drive traffic to our Facebook Business Page wall?
Traffic To Facebook Business Page:
That brings us back to the beginning can we drive traffic to our milestone, the new cover page, somewhere on our Facebook business page. Certainly we can just do the ‘engaging’ thing and just ask “have you seen our milestones?” But it’s easy to see via insights and google analytics that people are more likely to click on a link that will take me to what you’d like me to see than if no link exists?
For the brands that have over a million ‘likes’ I’m sure that even if they only got 2% of those individuals a month to go to their wall the effort of making all the changes is well worth it. For the small local business owner that engages with 300 people, or 3,000 that percentage has to make you wonder about the time put forth in the new Facebook business page as most of the conversation is going to take place in the newsfeed.
New Facebook Business Page Milestones:
This is what I believe Facebook needs to fix for the small business owner. A feature where we have the ability to post a FB link on our Facebook business page that you would send someone to a direct location on our Facebook business page. The new layout certainly has some website qualities to it, but a key ingredient it is missing is the ability to direct someone straight to your ‘Milestone.’
How nice would it be that you can create a milestone from 1960 and post it as a link, and when clicked, the individual would go directly to the 1960 milestone. As much as I have tried I haven’t seen where this possibility exists. If you have found out that it can be done, please let me know as I would find this a fascinating tool.
As you ask yourself about the time and or money to invest into the New Facebook Business Pages I have found that in life what you put into something you generally get out of. My suggestion is to make the investment and the plunge and create as fine of a Timeline page as you can. Keep an eye on your insights and make it a goal and objective to create interesting reasons for people to visit your timeline. Don’t look at this is something that you’ll have a definite answer in a matter of weeks, there are very few definite’s in social media including your Facebook Business Page.
Good luck and please let us know how it goes on your new Facebook Business Page!

” A feature where we have the ability to post a FB link on our Facebook business page that you would send someone to a direct location on our Facebook business page.” – I was just trying to articulate this to someone the other day. I’m glad that you have the words! I think Facebook is becoming one of those tools, all of us in social media and small biz have to pay special attention too because of perception, at the very least. With regard to the pages, I think the presentation is just as key as the utility but I do think they will matter. Maybe it’s not immediately clear but particularly the insights will go a long way in showing numbers and measurement which is key!
Thanks for finding us Kovie… Agree about the presentation of your page as it can create a perception for how you do business and in many cases perception is reality.. Thanks for the comment Kovie.
Personally I hope my children never use facebook! Realistically, they are going to and you will not be able to stop them, all you can do is monitor their usage as much as you can without totally invading their privacy. As young adults they are entitled to some privacy but you should warn any young child about internet usage and the dangers associated with it. The age that you decide that your child should have a facebook account is totally up to you, it is your house and your rules.
Thanks for sharing this , I never knew about this before, all I know that face-book is a great source of income because we can use this in different kinds of online business.
