As a small business owner, it’s HARD to keep the focus on growing your business when the daily demands consume all your time and energy. But here’s the reality we all know: if we don’t focus on small business growth strategies, we won’t stay busy, and in this economy, staying busy is essential for survival.
Set Time Aside for Growth
To effectively implement small business growth strategies, you must set aside a portion of your workweek dedicated solely to growing your business. A good rule of thumb is to spend at least 10% of your workweek, ideally up to 50%, on activities promoting growth. For example, if your average workweek is 40 hours (and let’s face it, most business owners work far more), that means dedicating at least 4 to 20 hours a week solely to business development. This dedicated time is invaluable—it’s your opportunity to work on the strategies that will take your business to the next level and keep your sales funnel full.
Use Networking and Community Engagement for Growth
Once you’ve set aside time, filling it with activities that truly impact your growth is essential. Community organizations, networking groups, leads groups, and Chambers of Commerce are all excellent avenues to explore. These activities are fundamental small business growth strategies that expand your connections and create opportunities for partnerships and referrals. Even though I work in advertising, I’ll be the first to tell you that word of mouth is critical to any business’s success. Advertising helps to spread the word faster! In addition to networking, it’s essential to maintain an active online presence—keep your website updated, ensure your social media accounts are engaging, and post blog updates regularly. These marketing activities are core elements of small business growth strategies that help build your brand and keep you top of mind with customers.
Maintain a Balanced Approach
By following these small business growth strategies, your sales funnel will fill up, and you’ll need to balance your time carefully. Plan for your next big sale, organize events like your company’s anniversary, and nurture positive relationships with your current clients. These are all essential components of growing your business. The key is remembering what’s important and making time for the meetings and activities that contribute to long-term growth. If you stay proactive and focus on proven small business growth strategies, you’ll position your business for sustained success.
