When you write for a living, whether for your own blog or for someone else’s, it is expected that you are going to have writer’s block from time to time. Don’t let writer’s block get the best of you. These four tips will help you avoid writer’s block before it even strikes.

Keep a Notebook

All writers should keep some sort of a notebook to jot down articles ideas when they come to them. Sometimes ideas can come to you at the most unexpected times, like when you are grocery shopping, folding the laundry, or even walking to the mail box. Therefore, it is important to carry around a little notebook with you so that you can capture your ideas before they get away from you.

If you don’t like using a pen and paper, create a note file on your iPhone or smart phone where you can easily organize your article ideas.

Set a Time to Write

Sometimes if you sit down at a bad time, like right before dinner, or right before bed time, you are going to have a hard time writing and organizing your thoughts. If kids are getting ready for school or later in the day asking for help with homework, then these definitely aren’t the best times for you to write.

Some writers are early birds and some like to stay up late after the rest of the family has gone to bed. Pick a time that works for you and try to sit down and write a little bit each day, even if it is just to jot down an article idea or two or come up with a few article titles. Sometimes the title is the hardest part of writing an article, so if a catchy title comes to you then write it down before you forget it.

You will find that some days you are more inspired to write then other days, and that’s okay. If you’re having an off day, then work on something else for awhile like researching new article ideas to write about another day.

Get Inspired

Now that Pinterest is so popular, there is no reason for you not to be able to come up with an article idea. Whatever your topic, just search for it on Pinterest and you find hundreds of photos and posts on that topic.

When you are having a hard time getting inspired, either pin some new photos to existing Pinterest boards that you already have or create some new boards and just start pinning. If you pin a few posts every day, before you know it you will have thousands of great article topic ideas right at your fingertips.

Go Out and Play

If your creative juices just aren’t flowing, if all else fails go out and play. Play with your kids in the yard or go work in the garden. Cook up a new recipe in the kitchen. Often our best ideas come to us when we are being creative, and when you are doing your favorite hobbies, or even doing nothing at all, you just may get a new article idea to write in your idea notebook for later.

If all else fails, go to bed early and get some extra sleep. If you have been burning the candle at both ends and are really tired, you probably need to get some extra sleep to get those creative juices flowing again.

Writer’s block is almost always temporary. In fact, some writers believe that writer’s block is a myth. While you might find yourself struggling to put a couple of sentences together now and again, by following these simple tips, you will likely be writing again in no time.
