After four weeks of growing excitement and extraordinary community involvement, the moment finally arrived today: the Knock. CJ and Lindsey McPail of Medford were selected as the recipients of an Extreme Makeover: Home Edition rebuild — a well-deserved honor for a family who has poured so much into helping children in our community. You can read more about their story here.

Knowing the depth of the show’s selection process and seeing the McPail family’s commitment to local youth, the choice feels exactly right. And now, the Extreme Makeover Home Edition Medford build can officially begin. If your daily drive includes Coker Butte Road, you may want to plan for a few extra minutes this week as volunteers, crews, and community members arrive on site.

Local Community Impact Continues Through the Build

Financial support is still needed for the Extreme Makeover Medford Build Fund. An account is open at all PremierWest Bank locations, and every contribution — large or small — makes a difference. Alongside the fund, Southern Oregon businesses are continuing the $1-per-like Facebook campaign. Clicking “like” on their pages is an easy and meaningful way to support the businesses that support this community effort.

Here are the participating businesses:

  • PremierWest Bank,
  • Airport Chevrolet,
  • Southern Oregon Subaru,
  • Dollar Buick GMC,
  • Spring Air Heating & Cooling,
  • InfoStructure,
  • Batzer Construction,
  • Black Rock Coffee Bar – Biddle Rd,
  • Grants Pass Heating & Air Conditioning,
  • Butler Automotive Group,
  • Fusion Dance Academy,
  • Northwest Community Credit Union,
  • Rogue Valley Country Club,
  • Taprock Northwest Grill – Grants Pass,
  • and Angus Driving Service.

This is local community impact in real time — businesses showing up for a family, a cause, and a moment larger than themselves.

How the Community Can Continue to Support the Build

With the build officially underway, the McPail family is being whisked away on a well-deserved vacation while crews and volunteers work around the clock. Spectators are welcome to visit the site, and everyone is encouraged to bring canned or nonperishable food to support the ACCESS Food Share Pantry Network, which serves 25 pantries across the region. Collection barrels will be available starting Friday, September 9.

Other Extreme Makeover builds across the country have seen tremendous success with food drives, and there is every reason to believe Southern Oregon will show the same heart and generosity.

The Extreme Makeover Home Edition Jackson County team also shared a thoughtful post on Facebook — well worth reading if you’d like more context and updates.

Moments like this remind us how deeply local community impact can shape a region. When people show up, when businesses lean in, and when generosity becomes contagious, incredible things happen.
